1945 The first atomic bomb used on people was dropped on Hiroshima.

1983 Japanese PM NAKASONE Yasuhiro reasserted the "three nuclear principles": Japan will not produce, possess, or introduce nuclear weapons.

1993 Heading an 8-party coalition, HOSOKAWA Morihiro (b. 1938, New Frontier Party leader) became the first non-Liberal Democratic Party prime minister of Japan since 1955.
