1401 The reconstruction of the imperial palace at Kyoto was completed. For much of the 14th century, there were two competing imperial courts. In 1392, the southern court reunited with the northern one.  Fires, including the one prompting this reconstruction,  repeatedly destroyed or damaged the palace. Following the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the imperial family moved to the Tokugawa's Edo (now Tokyo) palace.
