1881 Japanese emperor issued proclamation promising the convening of a national assembly by 1890.
1983 Former Japanese PM Tanaka Kakuei sentenced to four years in prison and fines over the Lockheed scandal. The conviction was appealed and not affirmed until 1995, two years after Tanaka died.
