1998 Japanese film director and producer Yamada Tengo died at age 81. Yamada specialized in films examining social issues. He directed Hadashi no Gen (Barefoot Gen, 1976) and Hadaka no Taishoo Hoorooki -- Yamashita Kiyoshi Monogatari (Yamashita Kiyoshi: Wandering Artist, 1981).
