Jim has a wide range of administrative experience at UCLA, working for non-profits, and in the private sector. He earned his B.A. from UC Santa Cruz and did graduate work in European History at UCLA (M.A. 1997, C. Phil. 1998). Jim speaks several European languages, including German, French, Spanish and Swedish. While a graduate student, Jim focused on early modern German social history, examining the transformation of a coastal region north of Hamburg into an integral part of 19th century European political economy. Jim is active in his local community in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles and is an enthusiastic hiker, rugby player, and swimmer.
