Selected Topics in European Theatre- “Decadence” (Theatre 111A)
explores the literature, poetry, theatre, art, film, and dramatic café cultures of the British-European 'decadent' era (1880s-1930s), from lighthearted fin-de-siècle aestheticist and avant-garde experiments to the darker works and events of the Nazi period. In addition, this course will investigate wider concepts of 'nature,' 'beauty,' 'civilization,' and 'modernity.' Instructor: Professor Shelley I. Salamensky. Course is open to all graduate students. Immigration in Contemporary France (ES 191)
Examination of history of immigration in France following official end of colonialism in 1960. This framework helps provide better understanding of contemporary French society, civil unrest of 2005, and key issues leading up to the 2007 national election. Central themes: colonialism, decolonization, national identity and meory, Islam, immigrant cultures, racism, the banlieues, RAP and Hip Hop culture, extreme right-wing politics, the Republic, multicultrualism, and national politics. Professor Bojan Bogaric, Ljublana Law School, offered a course in January 2005 at the UCLA Law School entitled: GLOBALIZATION AND LAW .Globalization has been portrayed as a new "invisible hand" radically changing the existing patterns of international trade, domestic economy and regulatory (legal) institutions supervising both international and domestic markets.
