For several years, fascism and other types of ultranationalism has been on the rise again all over Europe. But what is modern fascism and how is it different from the interwar kind? How can one distinguish between fascism and other types of ultranationalism and right-wing populism? And finally, what has brought about the current European situation?
Lena Berggren is an Associate Professor in History at Umeå University, Sweden. She has a PhD in the history of ideas and has done research on Swedish antisemitism, radical conservatism and fascism. She has been a visiting scholar at Oxford Brookes University in the UK and a visiting lecturer at UCLA (Fall 2016). She has also received prizes for her teaching and has been awarded an excellence in teaching promotion at her home institution.
