Hailing from France’s Basque country, this outstanding contemporary ballet company puts an exhilaratingly original spin on modern classics. Each piece “is inspired from the original without being a copy, and the subject is treated from today’s point of view,” af?rms artistic director Thierry Malandain whose quirky, idiomatic ballets assume a “?lial” relationship with the past. “To the old, we simply add something new.” This outstanding ensemble makes its California debut performing two American premieres.
