A film by Thomas Hausner, Germany, 1995, 85 min., German with English subtitles.

"Long live our GDR" gives a nostalgic overview of the life in Eastern Germany. Hausner compiles original film and TV footage, but also films by GDR citizens covering a wide range of topics, from the hottest GDR fashion, memories from state-run summer-camps to the advantage of living and working in socialist Germany. The result is hilariously funny.

German filmmaker Thomas Hausner specializes in short and compilation films such as this entertaining look at the GDR and post-war Germany Made in Germany (1998). As a newsman, Hausner covered nearly 12,000 TV news and magazine articles. The winner of many TV awards, Hausner recently produced the first TV series for children on the topic of the Holocaust.
