Chapaev is the story of Vasily Ivanovich Chapaev, a legendary Red Army commander who became a hero of the Russian Civil War. The plot of the film is based on the novel of the same name by Dmitry Furmanov, a writer and Bolshevik commissar who fought alongside Chapaev.

 

Ronald Vroon is Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests include eighteenth-century Russian politics and poetic discourse, Russian religious philosophy, and Russian modernist literature, with a focus on the works of Velimir Khlebnikov. He has published widely in Russian and English. His teaching interests include twentieth century Russian literature and comparative Christianities.
