CEES Funding Opportunities for UCLA Faculty

UCLA Academic Senate faculty affiliated with CEES may apply for funds which are to be used to organize events focusing on Europe/Eurasia or to support week-long visits by European/Eurasian scholars whose work focuses on Europe/Eurasia. Events and scholars with multidisciplinary appeal are especially welcome, as are those that may attract external funding or lead to future collaborations.

Priority is given to projects that focus on the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, new initiatives, and annual events in their first three years. However, all projects of serious academic merit that focus on Europe or Eurasia will be considered. Project descriptions must demonstrate how the project will advance knowledge of European or Eurasian societies, histories, or cultures.

All funds must be spent in the period for which they are awarded.

Following the end of the grant period, recipients are expected to submit a brief activity and expense report.

Cost-sharing with other departments and programs is encouraged. Applicants are also encouraged to seek additional travel allowances from the Council for European Studies at Columbia University (http://www.councilforeuropeanstudies.org/grants-and-awards/travel-grants)

Supporting documentation: two-page project description written in language that is accesible to non-specialist colleagues, itemized budget, CV(s) of visitor(s)

Requirements specific to each of the funding categories are outlined below:

Conferences, Workshops, Speaker Series

Note: Faculty may apply for funding to support conferences organized by graduate and undergraduate students.

Visiting Scholars

Application Deadlines: June 15 for upcoming Fall quarter and October 30 for Winter and Spring quarters.
