About Governor General David Johnston
Governor General David Johnston is The Queen’s representative in Canada and exercises the duties of head of State. Non-partisan and apolitical, he presides over the swearing-in of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of Canada and cabinet ministers; summons, prorogues and dissolves Parliament; delivers the speech from the Throne; grants Royal Assent to acts of Parliament. He also receives Royal visitors and many foreign dignitaries during their visits to Canada. He also serves as Commander-in-Chief of Canada.
Prior to becoming Governor General of Canada in 2010, Mr. Johnston served as dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario, Vice-Chancellor of McGill University and the President of the University of Waterloo, Canada’s most innovative university recognized for advanced research and teaching in science and engineering, health, environment, arts and social sciences, and home to the world's largest post-secondary co-operative education program. In 2011, the University of Waterloo officially renamed its Research and Technology Park in honour of David Johnston to recognize his contributions to the university during his 11-year tenure as president, as well as his commitment to advancing research and technology in service for the people of the community and for all Canadians.
He has served on many task forces and committees, such as the Board of Oversees of Harvard College, Administrative Board of International Association Universities, and the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Technology; National Task Force on High Speed Broadband Access; and the Information Highway Advisory Council just to name a few.

Northbound to UCLA: Take the 405 freeway north and exit Wilshire Blvd East. Head east and take a left on Westwood Blvd. Follow Westwood Blvd. as it turns into Westwood Plaza. The information kiosk where parking permits may be purchased will be to your left as you enter the campus.
Southbound to UCLA: Take the 405 freeway south and exit Wilshire Blvd East. Head east and take a left on Westwood Blvd. Follow Westwood Blvd. as it turns into Westwood Plaza. The information kiosk where parking permits may be purchased will be to your left as you enter the campus.
Westbound to UCLA: Take Wilshire Blvd and head west. Take a right on Westwood Blvd. Westwood Blvd turns into Westwood Plaza. The information kiosk where parking permits may be purchased will be to your left as you enter the campus.
Parking for this event is available in parking structure 8. Daily parking permits for parking structure 8 may be purchased for $12/day from the information kiosk located on Westwood Plaza.
