The Latin American Institute (LAI) will provide up to $10,000 in support of a conference on a Latin American topic. Funding may be used to cover foreign and domestic travel, accommodations, per diem and honoraria for participants and other conference-related expenses (e.g., room reservation fees, photocopying/printing expenses, rental of audio-visual and presentation equipment rental, etc.). Grant funds may not be used for entertainment (including luncheons or dinners), salaries, equipment, or publication costs.
The LAI will administer the funds and will provide administrative support for conference coordination. The conference must take place during the 2013-2014 academic year at UCLA and be free and open to the public. Allocated funds must be expended by June 30, 2014.
Preference will be given to interdisciplinary proposals that include more than one Latin American country. Collaborative proposals submitted by two or more faculty members are welcome.
Applications must include a description of the proposed conference (not to exceed 800 words) which outlines the following: main objectives; the expected contribution to Latin American scholarship; the potential local, national, and international impact; the method of dissemination of the papers presented; a tentative program and a list of planned speakers; an abridged CV for principal organizers; and an itemized budget.
Applications deadline is Saturday, June 1, 2013.
