University of Chicago, Japanese Studies Scholarships and FellowshipsFellowships and Scholarships offered by the Center for East Asian Studies, University of Chicago Designated by The U.S. Department of Education as a National Resource Center, the Center is able to offer academic year and summer language study Title VI (FLAS) fellowships to qualified students. The academic year awards cover tuition and stipend for language study, and the summer fellowships offer a stipend and money toward tuition. There are also limited, non-federal funds available for students who do not qualify for federal funding. The distribution of these funds will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The Center also provides funds to students in area studies at the dissertation stage to assist them in the final phase of their work. Initial inquiries concerning funding should be made directly to one's divisional department. Departments will then pass requests for special East Asian funding to the Center.
