The creation of short films is one of the enduring achievements of artists who were committed to the politics of Salvador Allende. This screening is intended as an introduction to an epoch marked by enthusiasm, shattered dreams, and lasting traumas.
“Venceremos” (1970; 16 min.) by Pedro Chaskel and Héctor Ríos, “Eran unos que venían de Chile” (1985-87; 45 min.) by Claudio Sapiaín, and “1&2” (2008; 9 min.) by Sergio Castilla.
The classic documentary “Venceremos”, produced at the famous Centro de Cine Experimental, is an example of political filmmaking based on a refined use of antithetical montage. “Eran unos que venían de Chile”, financed by Swedish TV, is a moving testimony about a family returning to Chile after a long exile. “1&2”, an experimental short feature, deals with the oneiric experience of a traumatized father and his daughter.
Director Sergio Castilla will be present at the showing.
Reception to follow event.
Organized by Professor Verónica Cortínez
