Organized in conjunction with the exhibition, Golden Kingdoms, this event provides K-12 educators an intimate opportunity to explore a major international exhibition featuring more than 300 valuable objects from the Ancient Americas, produced from about 1000 BCE to the time of the arrival of Europeans in the early sixteenth century. The use of gold from Peru in the south to Mexico in the north, transformed into objects for gods and rulers, provides the central narrative and trajectory of the exhibition.
The event will include a gallery tour of the exhibition, where teachers will be introduced to the collections and invited to participate in open-ended discussions of the visual arts. Exhibition curator Kim Richter (Getty Research Institute) and Professor Kevin Terraciano (UCLA) will present an overview of the collection and address the cultural and political conditions under which such works were created and circulated.
