Akira Kono is Professor of Portuguese Language and Linguistics in the Research Institute for World Languages at Osaka University, Japan. He is the author of NHK Burujiru Porutogarugo Nyumon [Introduction to Brazilian Portuguese], published in Tokyo in 2001, as well as a number of scholarly papers on Portuguese language and Brazilian literature and culture. His talk will focus on the growing field of Portuguese language and Luso-Brazilian studies in contemporary Japan.
