Tata Amaral’s “O Rei do Carimã” (“The King of Carimã,” 2009) is a personal documentary about the director’s quest to discover the facts of a criminal proceeding her father had been involved in years before her birth, as well as an exploration about the motivations, objectives, and moral significance of making the documentary, which takes shape as the director’s questions evolve. In this sense, it is affiliated with such documentaries as Sandra Kogut’s A Hungarian Passport and Kiko Goifman’s 33, both of which point toward new avenues of creativity for contemporary documentary production in Brazil. The director will be present to discuss the film.

Among Tata Amaral’s films are Um Céu de Estrelas (1996), Através da Janela (2000), and Antônia (2006).
