In November 2011, Ambassador Jorge Argüello was appointed ambassador of Argentina to the United States of America. On January 18, 2012, Ambassador Argüello presented his Letters of Credence to President Barack Obama.

Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Argüello served as permanent representative of Argentina to the United Nations from 2007 to 2011. His tenure at the United Nations was marked by constant efforts to advance Argentina’s claims regarding the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands.

Likewise, while at the United Nations, Ambassador Argüello was appointed vice president of the Peace and Security Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2006 and 2007. At the same time, in 2008, he presided over the Fourth Committee of the United Nations and in 2011 over the G77 and China. His mandate was characterized by his strong leadership, both internally and outside the group, and he actively participated in major international meetings and negotiations, such as the United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries, meetings on international finance system reform, debates on global governance and negotiations on climate change, among others.
