UCLA Russian Flagship

UCLA Russian Flagship

Language Education For U.S. Global Professionals

The UCLA Russian Flagship is open to all undergraduates who seek professional-level competence in Russian in preparation for work in a Russia-related field. The Flagship offers a rigorous, content-based study program of Russian language, culture, and society.

Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis at any level. Flagship courses are open to any major and also count towards a major or minor in Russian. Each Flagship student follows an individualized study plan, which includes mentoring by native speakers and Russian-language materials related to their major field of study.

The Russian Flagship includes courses at UCLA followed by a year in St. Petersburg. Students who join Flagship at low or intermediate levels may be required to complete intensive summer programs in the U.S. or abroad. Funding for summer study may be available through Flagship funding and National Security Education Program (NSEP) scholarships (for information on funding, go here).

The UCLA Russian Flagship is administered by American Councils (ACTR) and is a consortium member with three other Flagship Centers:

The UCLA Russian Flagship is funded by The Language Flagship, which supports programs in several critical languages in schools and universities across the U.S.
