How to View This BookYou must have a copy of the program Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to be able to view, print, or download International Education in the New Global Era. The individual chapters and a copy of the whole book in a single file are in Adobe Acrobat format. These files cannot be seen on the screen directly, but are downloaded to your computer, then viewed in a special plug-in for your web browser, Adobe Acrobat. This plug-in is free from the Adobe company at the following web site: Adobe Acrobat Reader. To get Acrobat Reader click on the highlighted link above. This will take you to Adobe's web site. There select Acrobat Reader from table (about 5 choices down). Select the correct version for your computer (Windows, MAC, OS/2, etc.). Then Adobe will ask you to register with them to receive this free software. They will ask a few questions about your machine, then give you instructions on how to download and install Acrobat Reader. Essentially you will click on a button that says download now, and a file will be copied to a subdirectory of your choice on your computer. When the download is complete, go to that subdirectory in Windows Explorer and double click on the file you have just downloaded. This will install the Acrobat Reader in your web browser and you will then be able to read Adobe PDF (Portable Document Formats) from any web site that uses them. Why Use Adobe PDF?The advantage of Acrobat files, also called PDF for Portable Document Format, is that they retain all of the original formatting of the document, can be seen on both IBM and Mac type computers, retain their pagination for academic citation, and can be printed in whole or in part on your own printer. We have created thumbnails of all chapters, which can be shown to the left of the printed page and can help you jump to particular points in the document. Text can be highlighted and pasted into your own documents for purposes of quotation. (Note on printing PDF files from Windows: if you have problems with the line justification, set your HP laser printer to Graphics=Use raster graphics and Fonts=Download True Type fonts as outline soft fonts.) |
