USC Visiting Fellowship Competition

Program Summary

The Center for International Studies (CIS) of the School of International Relations, University of Southern California (USC), announces its International Visiting Fellowship Competition for the 2002-2003 academic year. The Center is particularly interested in projects that consider: Politics and Economics of the Pacific Rim including Latin America.

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of academic achievements and promise, publications and previous work experience (where applicable), quality of the research proposal, and the applicant's potential for making significant scholarly contributions. Applicants with a Ph.D. may be invited to teach a course in the USC School of International Relations, with additional compensation.

Eligibility

The competition is open to junior scholars: those who have received their Ph.D.s within the last five years or those who have nearly completed a dissertation. Applications are welcome from all qualified candidates without regard to citizenship, age, or gender. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Stipend

The Center will provide an appropriate stipend, office space, USC library privileges, and access to word processor and computer facilities. Health insurance and other benefits are not covered by the fellowship. The Fellowship provides $1,000 for moving expenses.

Deadline

January 14, 2002 - application materials must be postmarked on or before this date. The Center expects to announce awards in March.

Application Procedures
Applicants should submit:
* a curriculum vitae
* a 5-7 page research proposal
* a list of publications (when applicable)
* a graduate transcript
* 3 confidential letters of recommendation
Applications without a research proposal will NOT be considered. The letters of recommendation may be sent directly to the office by the referee.
