Margaret Kuo

History, 2003

Assistant Professor of History at McGill University. She received a B.A. from UCLA, and then, guided by the idea that the study of law would lead to the promotion of social justice, enrolled in law school and earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center (in 1995). After briefly practicing tax law, she returned to UCLA to study Chinese history. Professor Kuo recently completed a year as a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for East Asian Studies, Stanford University, where she cultivated her research interests in the history of gender, emotions, and law, especially law as a site of historical conflict between sentiment and power.
