Dr. Russell Burgos lectures in the Global Studies Interdisciplinary Degree Program, teaching classes on globalization, security, and conflict and on global governance. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA’s Political Science Department and has a master’s degree in Security Policy Studies from The George Washington University.

In conjunction with UCLA’s Center for Middle East Development, he directed the Middle East Military-Security Program at the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) for five years, facilitating dialog between senior military officers from the Near and Middle East. He developed close working relationships with senior military and security leaders from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, as well as a number of NATO allies.

A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he oversaw communications and current intelligence personnel and coordinated civil-military operations for a combat aviation battalion. He has published in scholarly journals, edited volumes, research encyclopedias, has provided expert commentary in major newspapers and on local, national, and international television and radio, and has been a consultant to the television and motion picture industries.
