Thursday, February 4, 2021
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The USC Korean Studies Institute is back with the 9th annual virtual graduate student symposium and invites paper and discussant proposals. The symposium aims to professionalize graduate students, nurture their scholarship, and create interdisciplinary networks of Ph.D. students working on research related to Korea, East Asia, and/or Asian diasporas. The symposium provides students from various institutions with the chance to meet and share research in progress with their peers and participating faculty. In addition, participants will engage in workshops that will build their professional and research skills.

Graduate students from any department and any university, especially in California, are encouraged to submit paper proposals or serve as discussants. The hope is to achieve an interdisciplinary mix of research papers from both the social sciences and humanities. Particularly encouraged are research papers that include Korea in a larger comparative or theoretical framework.

Participants can take part in the symposium as presenters or discussants. Please indicate which role(s) you are applying for in your cover letter.

Applications should be submitted to uscksigradsymposium@gmail.com by Friday, October 9, 2020. Authors of accepted proposals/discussant roles will be notified by mid-October.

For paper proposals, please email your CV, a short cover letter, and 250-word abstract.

To apply as discussant, please submit your CV and short cover letter.

Completed papers must be submitted by Thursday, January 21, 2021 for distribution to participants. Questions should be directed to KSI Grad Symposium Organizing Committee at uscksigradsymposium@gmail.com

Travel grants are not offered at this time.
