K-POP, or Korean Pop, is a musical genre from South Korea, and through its recent growth, it can now also be found on the Billboard charts in the United States. Amidst the growth of global K-POP, there are special music programs in Korea, such as "Inkigayo" (Korean: 인기가요; English title: The Music Trend show), a South Korean music program broadcasted by SBS. The show airs live every Sunday and features some of the latest and most popular artists to perform on stage. It is broadcasted from the SBS Open Hall in Deungchon-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. Every week, the show introduces new music and live performances, and through this process, world-class K-POP stars are born. The technology that captures every second of live broadcasting, including the fast movements of the stars' fancy dancing, is difficult to find in any other studio. Whenever a new stage comes out every Sunday, K-POP fans around the world communicate about the show in real time. It's a content shared by fans all over the world. Through this colloquium, Ms. Cho will reveal the production process of live music programs, and discuss the future of K-pop-related content. * If you are interested in attending this talk, please email the Center (koreanstudies@international.ucla.edu) for a Zoom invitation.
