The UCLA Center for Middle East Development's (CMED) The Middle Easterner blog aims to provide commentary, opinions, insight, and resources related to the Middle East & North Africa from a diverse range of voices in the UCLA community and beyond. This blog is a UCLA student run publication of CMED, part of the UCLA International Institute. Articles are primarily written by UCLA undergraduate students.

These articles represent the views of the authors only, and do not necessarily constitute the positions of UCLA, the International Institute, or CMED. Readers are invited to offer alternative perspectives.

Guidelines:
• Your piece should discuss Middle East and North Africa related topics such as culture, politics, and society. This can be presented in the form of conversation starters, opinion pieces, personal narratives, top 10 lists, and more.
• Approximately 800 words in length. Please be sure to cite your sources.
• Create hyperlinks to add references to your blog piece (don’t use footnotes or end notes).
• If you include images, they must be your own or used with explicit permission of the owner. Alternatively, you may use images published under the creative commons license (while still taking care to attribute them to their source).
• Include a title and subtitle: these should be succinct, catchy, and clearly convey your topic.
• Upon submitting your piece, include a brief 3-4 sentence bio, including your major, year in school, and academic interests.
