UCLA alumna leads students beyond borders
Carmen Anders (UCLA 1996), a Spanish teacher at New Roads School in Los Angeles, attended a teacher development workshop in Oaxaca organized by the Latin American Institute in 2023. Two years later, she took eight of her students on her own 10-day, “Beyond Borders” immersive educational trip to her native Oaxaca, where they explored indigenous knowledge and culture, connected with local communities and strengthened their Spanish-language skills.

Record number of UCLA graduate students win Fulbright-Hays Fellowships
The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad program has awarded 15 fellowships to UCLA graduate students, the most chosen from any research university nationwide for the fourth year. The UCLA fellows will conduct their research in Colombia, Egypt, Guinea, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Nigeria, Spain and Taiwan.
