May 15, 2012: Deadline for PKU Graduate Research Exchange at UCLA
JRI is accepting graduate students from Peking University for up to one year of research at UCLA.
Published: Friday, May 11, 2012
As part of the UCLA-PKU Joint Research Institute in Science and Engineering (JRI) agreement, each academic year UCLA, through JRI, may accept up to five graduate students from Peking University (PKU) with their UCLA tuition and campus fees waived. These students need to be recommended by a JRI faculty member at PKU and hosted by a JRI faculty member at UCLA for joint research.
If a UCLA JRI faculty member is interested in hosting a PKU graduate student, he or she needs to submit the following materials for review by JRI Co-directors: student's CV, transcript, recommendation from students' PKU advisor, and a letter from the UCLA sponsor describing the project the student would be working on. May 15th is the deadline for submissions. All submissions should be sent to JRI Program Coordinator Larissa Harrison: firstname.lastname@example.org. JRI will then facilitate bringing the selected students to UCLA. JRI requests that students in this exchange program acknowledge the support from JRI in any publication that may arise from the collaboration.
Though tuition and campus fees are waived, students must obtain SHIP Insurance and are responsible for their own living expenses and procuring housing. It is recommended that each student’s sponsoring faculty member or department cover SHIP insurance and any lab fees for their student.
JRI participants must conform to the academic calendar dates and stay for a minimum of one quarter and maximum three quarters during the academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring). Summer term is excluded from the JRI program. However, if participants wish to stay beyond the three quarters they may do so by enrolling fulltime and paying campus and course fees during the Summer sessions.
You are also invited to recommend students for Winter and Spring entrance. For Winter ’13, the submission deadline is September 1st and decisions will be made by September 23rd. For Spring ’13, the submission deadline is November 1st and decisions will be made by December 1st.
