Elementary Azeri
NELC offers Elementary Azeri starting in Fall 2004.

Visiting Professor Dr. Kurtulus Oztopcu is teaching a course in Elementary Azeri in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures this Fall. The course meets Monday through Friday at 2:00 in the afternoon. Interested students are invited to enroll in Turkic 115A.
Dr. Oztopcu received his PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA, writing his dissertation on Munyatul-Ghuzat: A 14th-century Mamluk-Kipchak Military Treatise. He is the author of a traveler's mini-course on Colloquial Azerbaijani (1994), and the co-author of a Dictionary of the Turkic Languages (1996) which includes Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tatar, Turkish, Turkmen, Uighur and Uzbek. His most recent work, Elementary Azerbaijani (2000), is complemented by audio CDs.
