Chapman University, a comprehensive, liberal arts based university in southern California, seeks a tenure track assistant professor in sub-Saharan African or East Asian history. The department of History is housed in Wilkinson College of Letters and Sciences, the liberal arts college of the university, which is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and to personalized education, mentoring and collaborative research with students. Position is effective fall, 2006.
Qualifications include: Ph.D. in history; evidence of effective teaching and scholarly productivity; and a commitment to a student-centered learning environment and cultural diversity. Salary is competitive and based on credentials and experience.
Responsibilities include: developing and teaching introductory and upper-division courses in area of expertise; participating actively in undergraduate advisement and mentoring; and participating in departmental and university affairs.
