Part-Time Lecturer Needed - Yoruba
The UCLA James S. Coleman African Studies Center is currently searching for a part-time Lecturer in Yoruba. Individual will be responsible for providing Yoruba instruction and will also participate in program building of Yoruba instruction at UCLA and, specifically, in developing teaching materials and computerized Distance Education.
An applicant should have experience in teaching Yoruba in a college or university environment and a degree (M.A. or other advanced degree preferred) in a relevant discipline. Selected person will also be responsible for assisting in the building of computer-aided language learning methods and in software development for Yoruba instruction. We prefer a candidate who speaks Yoruba as her/his first language fluently and who has strong English skills plus a demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for in-class language instruction. We look for someone with skills in developing multi-media materials for language instruction, including the use of the Internet, as well as someone with experience in development of language materials and other projects related to African language teaching and learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate's duties and responsibilities will include: Teaching elementary, intermediate and/or advanced Yoruba classes on an annual basis; development of teaching materials; participation in African Studies Center activities; and involvement and interest in initiatives in the field of African language pedagogy.
This job is a part-time non-tenure track position and the lecturer will start in Fall 2006. Salary commensurate with experience and background. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until search is completed.
