The
Geography of China has helped to create numerous
regions within this vast land. Thus China became a
patchwork of different customs, cultures and
languages. mountain ranges ripple across the
land(refer to the map on page 263 of your text book),
making travel and communication difficult.
Some of the highest mountains such as the Himalayas are found here. Many peaks rise over 24000 feet above sea level. Mount Everest the highest mountain in the world soars to 29,028 feet.
Deserts also create barriers within China. Across the north and northwest lie dry wastelands. The greatest of China's deserts is the Massive Gobi.
Though mountains and deserts have divided the chinese, rivers have helped to link them. One of the Most famous rivers In China is Huang He which begins within the plateau of Tibet and runs across the farmland of northeastern China. Rich in minerals, it gets its name-meaning "Yellow River"- from the rich yellow dirt that it leaves behind when it overflows its banks. Another river the Chang Jiang winds across the farmland of central and southern China.
Farmers use the rivers many tributaries to send their crops easily and cheaply to pacific ports.
