At UCLA this summer, K-12 teachers are working with Asia specialists in exploring Asian literature.
Please visit the summer seminar website for the program, a list of readings, recommended web links and more.
This summer we're looking at Asian Literature. In addition to exploring classics and important newer works, we'll also look at how this literature has been translated into films and television shows and how it can be used to better understand social relations and cultural norms. The seminar begins on July 26 and run through August 7 (no sessions July 27 or August 2-3). We start at 9 in the morning, take an hour for lunch and finish by 4 in the afternoon. A detailed program should be available by the end of May.
Enrollment in the seminar is closed. If you are interested in learning more about this program or our other efforts to improve K-12 teaching about Asia, please send a note to Clayton Dube at email@example.com. You can reach him by phone at (310) 825-0007. Please include information on what and where you teach.
Fee: The fee for the program is $125.00 and covers materials, parking, field trips, and refreshments.
Credit: Participants who complete all seminar requirements (attendance and participation in all sessions of the seminar and completion of a curriculum development project) are eligible to receive credit which can be used toward a degree or advancement on a salary ladder. Los Angeles Unified School District teachers may choose salary advancement credit (4 points) or UCLA Extension credit (4 quarter units).
