Lindsey Dewitt

Lindsey DeWitt completed her PhD in Asian Languages & Cultures (Buddhist Studies) from UCLA in December 2015. Her dissertation features the modern social and religious history of Ominesan, a sacred mountain in Japan designated a World Heritage Site and National Park yet according to religious tradition maintained as a male-only site. DeWitt’s research interests include women's exclusion from sacred sites, gender, pilgrimage, World Heritage, monasticism, visual culture, folk studies, religious practices and economies, and the relationship between religion and the state. Outside of work (and as part of her work too), she enjoys climbing mountains, taking photographs, and exploring new places near and far.
