ABOUT THE TALK
We have many strategies for managing and resolving conflict, but no systematic strategies for meeting global challenges through the deliberate manipulation of connection. Who and what should we connect, and how, for resilience, replication, innovation, collaboration, and scale? The answers lie in network theory, complexity theory, sociology, business, and the sharing economy. It's a new frontier for international problem-solving.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Anne-Marie Slaughter is currently the President and CEO of the New America Foundation, a public policy institute and idea incubator based in Washington and New York. From 2009–2011 she served as Director of Policy Planning for the U.S. Department of State. The first woman to hold that position, she was given the Secretary’s Distinguished Service Award by Hillary Clinton.
Foreign Policy magazine has named Dr. Slaughter one of their Top 100 Global Thinkers for 4 years running. In 2012 her article "Why Women Still Can't Have It All," in The Atlantic, became the most read article in the history of the magazine and helped spawn a renewed national debate on the continued obstacles to genuine full male-female equality.
Prior to her government service, Dr. Slaughter was the Dean of Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and served as a professor of law and international affairs at Princeton, Harvard, and the University of Chicago.
