"Postmodernity-as-Coloniality: Contesting Cultural Imaginaries of Hong Kong, of whom, by whom, for whom?"

This essay examines the ways in which Xinyuan's A Crazy Horse in a Mad City, winner of the Hong Kong Biannual Literary Aware, 1997, and Kai's novel Catalog (1999) negotiates the colonial effects of cultural imaginaries under the comings and goings of British and PRC political and cultural hegemony. This essay tries to sensitize the audience to the hysterical uncertainty of negotiating the complex contemporary conditions of postmodernity-as-coloniality in Hong Kong.
