Matthew Gottfried


Matthew Gottfried is a Graduate Scholar at the Center for Middle East Development and a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles.  His dissertation uses experimental survey research and advanced quantitative methods to investigate how political terrorism affects public opinion and incentivizes government decision making.  His other research interests include international diplomacy, Middle East politics, and the Arab-Israeli conflict.  He has advanced language skills in Arabic.  His research has brought him to Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, and Lebanon and it has been recognized for excellence by the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.  He was also a David L. Boren Scholar while studying at the American University in Cairo, Egypt during the 2003-2004 academic year.
