This film documents the arrest and trial of Dr. Al-Arian, an Arab-American university professor accused of supporting a terrorist organization abroad. In the post 9/11 climate of heightened security, in which the Patriot Act undermines larger civil liberties, we see how speaking on behalf of Palestinian rights can potentially endanger an individual's fundamental rights. The chilling effects of one man's attempt to criticize U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East are explored, and the line between activism and terrorism is blurred, a process in which the mainstream media is complicit.
