Amina, the Confused Feelings

Documentary screening as part of the Arab Film Festival

Amina, the Confused Feelings

Mokrani's documentary follows the life of Amina who, at the age of 8, was forced to flee Algerias civil war with her family, becoming a refugee in France. Despite her many accomplishments at school and her role in an illustrious theater production, Amina, now age 15, experiences the range of traumatic feelings that typically afflict the lives of refugees, exiles, and immigrants. When she and her family make their first trip back to Algeria, we see her struggle with questions about self-identity, belonging, economic privilege, womens rights, family loyalties, and the question of where her future will be.
