Hilal Kazan is a master calligrapher and one of the few women to hold authorizations to practice the nesih (naskh) and sulus (thuluth) scripts from the great Hasan Celebi. In  addition, she holds a Ph.D. in the history of Islamic art with a specialization in the manuscript and chancery practices of the Ottoman period.
