Persian Lecture Series

One of the Center's goals is to promote Middle Eastern languages not only as subjects of study but also as vehicles for intellectual communication. To this end, CNES initiated a Persian Lecture Series in 2003, organized by Nayereh Tohidi, Professor and Chair of Women's Studies at California State University, Northridge, and a Center Research Associate. The bilingual (Persian as well as English) scholarly presentations have generated wide interest among students and throughout the Persian-speaking communities in the Southland. In addition to the hundreds of people drawn to the lectures at UCLA, a much larger audience has been exposed to the series through interviews with the speakers and excerpts from their lectures broadcast on local and international media such as IRTV (Iranian Television); Los Angeles' Radio Iran (KIRN 670 AM), the Voice of America and Radio Farda; and Internet sites such as Pars Times.
