Useful Reference Sites For Legal and Business Information

This website is a single-page information site advertising a CD ROM which lists publications on PRC laws (up to 1999). The CD can be ordered online from the site.

Sino Law is a fee-based website for accessing both legal and government information on China. This website contains an online legal database that offers resources by which to understand China’s legal system and culture. This online database covers a variety of legal topics including Constitution and Basic Laws, Civil and Commercial Laws, Intellectual Property Rights, Administrative Laws, and Other Laws. The site offers up-to-date English translations of all major business laws and regulations. Current information on newly adopted laws, new regulations, and changes or amendments to existing laws and regulations is promised to the website’s subscribers. The other online database offered is the China Government Guide. The website claims that this Guide is the first Internet database for China’s government which contains sections on Who’s Who, Missions, Directories, Biographies, and Photos. Subscription forms and listed fees are also available online.

Internet Chinese Legal Research Center (中国法)

This website is maintained by the Law School at Washington University, Saint Louis. The website offers a list of other websites providing information on laws in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. China web link categories include: legal resources on the Internet, news sources on the Internet, strategies for web-based searches of China’s laws, courses offered by North American law schools, and summer law courses sponsored by American universities but offered by Chinese or Hong Kong law programs. Each category provides a good list of accessible websites. The category concerning legal resources on the Internet, for instance, provides clickable links to web-based information on China’s laws or to offices such as China’s Procuratorate, the Patent Office, and the Securities Regulatory Commission. One promising link listed, www.hg.org/firms-china.htm, offers a selection of Chinese law firms but is still under construction.

Founded by Asian Information Resources Ltd., this website offers extensive resources concerning business information in Greater China. The information on the English mirror site includes current news, laws and regulations, statistics, information for various professions, analysis and predictions, investment guides, intellectual property rights, tax collection and regulations, and business travel tips. Users must subscribe to the site to obtain data and information; however, it is not clear whether subscriptions are free or only available for a fee. Subscription methods and further information are only available by contacting customer service online.

This website is maintained by Beijing University’s Law School and offers not only legal consulting services but also information on frequently referenced laws and regulations, legal cases, legal research and education, and China's law database. Chinalawinfo Co. Ltd. is a company, affiliated with Beijing University’s Law School and its Center for Legal Information, whose professed expertise lies in the electronic management of China's legal resources. The company’s staff are advertised as professionally trained bilingual experts on Chinese law. The website’s online database, with fee-based access, features laws and regulations, selected laws, cases, law journals, gazettes, and white papers. In addition, the website offers a legal forum for discussions on subjects such as the legal system of the PRC, hot topics in law, featured articles, speeches, interpretations of Chinese law, case analyses, and thesis abstracts. The website’s Community section lists web links to China’s law firms, law schools, people in the know, and an online law school. There is a Legislation Brief section containing summaries and titles of local and national level legislation that are also categorized by different legal areas. The online legal news provided is updated daily.

This website is another site which provides an online list of resources concerning China’s laws, law firms, and law enforcement. The website is clearly written, but not all of the listings are accessible. The website offers a limited number of  links to other websites.
