Western Conference of the Association for Asian Studies

September 26-28, 2002

The WCAAS annual conference will be held at  Brigham Young University (BYU). BYU and the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies welcome you to Provo for this event. Provo, a bustling college community, is forty-five miles south of Salt Lake City, home to Ballet West, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and the Utah Symphony. Salt Lake City is also a Delta Airlines hub, making connections to any part of the country convenient.

The Wasatch Mountains overlook BYU on the east and to the west lies Utah Lake. Within an hour's drive are several canyons and ski resorts; six national parks are only a half-day drive away. BYU supports one of the countries most active university international cinema programs and the university's Museum of Art is the largest in the mountain states region.

Call for Papers Proposals Deadline for WCAAS 2002: 31 May 2002

Topics: Proposals for panels, individual papers, and roundtables are welcome in all areas and fields of Asian Studies. Interdisciplinary and inter-area proposals are also welcome.

Proposals
: Each proposal should include an abstract or summary (not to exceed one page) for each paper. PDF form Panels and Roundtables: Complete panels should include three to four paper presenters, a chairperson, and discussant. Each participant and paper title should be listed on the panel proposal. Roundtable proposals should list participants.

Notification: Applicants will be notified concerning status by 1 July 2002.

Travel Grants: Small awards for graduate students to help defray costs are available.
