Justice Barry Mortimer received his Bachelor and Master's degrees from the Emmanuel College of Cambridge University, UK, and was called to the Bar in 1956. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1971 and was a Recorder of the Crown Court from 1972 to 1987. Justice Barry was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong in 1983 and a Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal in 1993. He retired as the Vice President of the Court of Appeal in August 1999, and continues to serve as a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a post which he holds since 1997.
