Becoming a Samurai
This lesson will examine the emergence of warriors in Japan and how they came to dominate Japanese society for seven centuries. Further it will discuss samurai values and practices and how they were cultivated and transmitted.
This unit will include primary source readings as well as and video materials. Here's a sample of these materials (drawn from the film Gonza the Spearman,1986).
