Periodicals -- with good coverage of Asia

For newspapers from specific Asian countries, look under the heading for those countries.

Asiaweek

Part of the Time Warner media empire and headquartered in Hong Kong, this publication isn't the most tends to be softer and glossier than the Far Eastern Economic Review. It is fond of lists (e.g. the ten top universities in Asia). The site is fast and easy to navigate.

Christian Science Monitor -- international page

Published Monday through Friday. The Monitor offers features on Asia as well as timely news analysis.

Far Eastern Economic Review

Owned by Dow Jones and published in Hong Kong, the Review is a respected news weekly with articles about more than economics. Among the Review's strengths is its book section.

Los Angeles Times

The Times offers better than average coverage of Asia, though East Asia gets more attention than South or Southeast Asia. One must pay to retrieve articles from previous issues. Among the strengths of the paper, however, are its reviews of Asian (again, more East Asian than from other regions) films.

National Geographic

Educators and others may be interested to know that NG is now selling a set of CD-roms which hold every photograph and article from the magazine's century of issues.

New Asia-Pacific Review: Online Edition

Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University. Aimed at non-specialists. Full text articles available on-line.

New York Times -- international page

The Times is available without charge, but registration is required. One may also search back issues, but a fee is required to retrieve articles. There is currently a special free introductory offer (10 articles within a two week period).
