Faculty Exchange Program
The Education Abroad Program (EAP)
In keeping with its mission as an international academic program, the Education Abroad Program (EAP) sponsors faculty exchanges to develop, strengthen, and diversify its academic linkages with partner institutions abroad.
Exchanges are intended to provide UC faculty members with the knowledge they need to help integrate study abroad into the curricula of the home UC campus, while providing them with collaborative research and teaching opportunities. Exchange visitors also gather information and provide advice to EAP about the programs and courses available at host institutions, as well as student welfare issues.
Exchange visits are generally for periods of four to six weeks. Financial support is provided as a round-trip economy airfare and a displacement allowance for offsetting the cost of being in the host country, ranging from $1,500 to $2,000, depending on the country.
Members of the UC Academic Senate are invited to submit proposals to EAP for exchange visits. Junior faculty and faculty engaged in undergraduate advising are especially encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to UC faculty who have not been selected for an EAP faculty exchange within the last three years.
Applicants must submit the following:
Completed EAP Faculty Exchange Application (included in this brochure)
Statement of purpose for the proposed visit
Current curriculum vitae
Letter of invitation from the host university faculty sponsor (described below) Faculty Sponsor
Applicants are required to identify a faculty sponsor at the host institution they wish to visit. Th e faculty sponsor will be instrumental in the success of the visit. The sponsor will help the UC faculty member find housing, will facilitate appropriate academic introductions, and will make arrangements for the visiting UC faculty member to have access to libraries and research facilities.
Note: In all communication with a potential faculty host, the applicant is instructed to clarify that he/she has not yet been selected as an EAP International Faculty Exchange Program participant.
Exchange applications and proposals are due to the applicant’s UC Campus EAP Office by January 14, 2005. Proposals will also be accepted from January 15 to June 30, 2005, if places remain open.
Exchange participants are required to submit a written report about their visits to the Universitywide Director of EAP within one month of the conclusion of their exchange visits.
