Ivo Welch is J. Fred Weston Professor of Finance at UCLA Anderson School, Director of The Laurence and Lori Fink Center for Finance & Investments, and an American economist and finance academic. His research has focused on financial economics and informational cascades. Publications include articles in academic journals and the popular press, in addition to a Corporate Finance textbook. He decided to fight the high textbook prices by offering his Corporate Finance textbook free over the web and for $60 in print (unlike the competition which costs $250).

Professor Welch is also the Editor of The Critical Finance Review and FAMe Jagazine, a journal/magazine that invites authors of articles accepted for publication in top finance and accounting journals to write short versions of their articles in language that makes the main ideas and results more accessible to broader audiences.

He is twice a recipient of the Michael Brennan Award. As of 2014, Professor Welch ranks 50th by downloads on Social Science Research Network (SSRN). In 2006 and 2007, he ranked 54th and 57th respectively on the Web of Science list of "Most-Cited Scientists in Economics & Business."

Professor Welch was previously on the Faculty of the Yale School of Management and Brown University's Economics Department as Professor of Financial Economics. He completed his BA in computer science in 1985 at Columbia University and both his MBA (in 1989) and PhD (in 1991) in finance at the University of Chicago.
