ABOUT THE SPEAKER

IVO WELCH is J. Fred Weston Professor of Finance at UCLA Anderson School, Director of The Laurence and Lori Fink Center for Finance & Investments, and an American economist and finance academic. His research has focused on financial economics and informational cascades. His publications include articles in academic journals and the popular press, in addition to a Corporate Finance textbook that he decided to offer free over the web and for $60 in print in order to fight high textbook prices.

Welch is also the Editor of The Critical Finance Review and FAMe Jagazine, a journal/magazine that invites authors of articles accepted for publication in top finance and accounting journals to write short versions of their articles in language that makes the main ideas and results more accessible to broader audiences.

He is also twice a recipient of the Michael Brennan Award. As of 2014, Professor Welch ranks 50th by download on Social Science Research Network (SSRN). In 2006 and 2007, he ranked 54th and 57th respectively on the Web of Science list of “Most-Cited Scientists in Economics & Business.” Welch holds a BA in computer science from Columbia University and both an MBA and PhD in finance from the University of Chicago.
