4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Bunche Hall 6275

Oren Meyers’ research interests focus on journalistic practices and values, Israeli collective memory, popular culture and the security discourse in Israeli society. He and colleagues Eyal Zandberg and Motti Neiger (School of Communication, Netanya Academic College) are editors of the soon-to-be-published On Media Memory: Collective Memory in a New Media Age (Palgrave Macmillan, June 2011). It explores a diversity of media technologies (television, radio, film and new media), genres (news, fiction, documentaries) and contexts (US, UK, Spain, Nigeria, Germany and the Middle East). Meyers' talk here focuses on his combined research with Neiger and Zandberg examining television and radio broadcasts during Israel's memorial Day for the Holocaust and Heroism between the years 1987-2007. Their work presents different aspects of the interrelations between changes in Israeli media, namely the rise of multichannel commercial electronic media, and the shaping of Israeli collective memory.
